Women’s Weekend Service Projects

Friday, September 12, 2025 | 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Take part in one of several on-campus service projects designed to connect participants in small groups while giving back to the W&M community. Projects offer an inside look at campus initiatives and showcase how sharing your time and talents can make a lasting impact.

Project 1: A Day in the Archives at Swem Library | 12:30-2 p.m. at Swem Library

Partner with W&M Libraries’ staff to organize and transcribe historical documents, including scrapbooks and diaries, that tell the personal stories of women. This workshop gives you a glimpse into the process of historical research and the vast collections held within the Special Collections Research Center that attract scholars worldwide and support local research. Max registration is 25.

Project 2: Gardening With Purpose: Supporting Campus Gardens | 1-3 p.m. at the Adams Garden

W&M’s Gardens & Grounds team maintains and improves more than 20 gardens across campus. Join us for a hands-on afternoon of gardening in the Adams Garden while learning from the professional Grounds & Gardens staff at W&M. Please wear appropriate gardening clothes, including close-toed shoes and sun protection. Gardening hand tools and gloves will be provided, but you’re encouraged to bring your own as well. Max registration is 10.

Project 3: In Conversation: Healing and History With the Lemon Project | 1-3 p.m.

Established in 2009, W&M’s Lemon Project builds bridges between William & Mary and African American communities through research, programming and collaborative work with campus partners. Join the Lemon Project team, including Lemon Project Society students, to discuss their research and bridge-building efforts. Share your own experiences at William & Mary and offer support to students as we work toward this journey of healing and reconciliation together. Max registration is 10.

Project 4: W&M Athletics Speed Mentoring: Empower the Next Generation of W&M Women | 2-4 p.m. at the W&M Athletics Complex

Inspire the next generation by joining a speed mentoring session with current student-athletes. Share advice from your personal and professional journey while learning about the aspirations of these W&M women. Your time and perspective can inspire, spark confidence and bring clarity to the future paths of these women. Let’s build lasting connections and make an impact — one conversation at a time. Max registration is 20.
